Pumping concrete into the footing
Although the detail on the photo on the left is poor, you can see the relationship between the swimming pool, the old pool deck, and the extension to the pool deck which surrounds the tower footing.  The photo on the right shows the concrete being pumped into the hole.

One of the issues I addressed to the structural engineer was the close proximity of the tower footing to the side of the pool.  Luckily, our soil was of a composition that did not pose a problem.  If you are placing your tower near a pool, you should consult with a qualified civil engineer because it is possible for the side of a pool to collapse into the excavation before the concrete is poured.  Additionally, the engineer will be able to assess if your soil composition is such that shoring of the hole will be necessary to prevent its collapse.  This is a very important safety issue.  Your life could depend on it!
